Samurai Sword Study Group

An old woodblock print showing the use of a Japanese sword
The Jinenkan Glamorgan Dojo holds regular classes in Bikenjutsu; the use of the Japanese sword. The training provided in these classes will draw upon the methods of swordsmanship found in a number a number of Ryuha (traditions or schools) including Jinen Ryu, Togakure Ryu and Kukishin Ryu.

These classes, which are open to everyone regardless of age or prior experience, provide a unique opportunity for the study of authentic Samurai era sword techniques.

The skills and techniques which will be covered in these classes include the use of Kamae (fighting postures) Kihon Toho (basic cutting methods) Kata (two person practice forms) Nitojutsu (the use of two swords)  Kodachi Dori (use of the short sword) Muto Dori (unarmed defences against a sword) and Tameshi Giri (actual cutting of targets).

Our sword classes are held each Sunday from 7.00 - 7.45 pm at the Rumney Memorial Hall, Cardiff and at The Parish Hall in Aberdare on Wednesdays at 7.30 - 8.45pm.

No special equipment is required to begin training, although because of the nature of the training, places are limited.

If you wish to take part in these classes, please contact us to book your place.
